Clothing Goal for 2020

The end of 2019 got me really rattled on clothing waste. The pace at which we toss our lightly used clothing combined with the Marie Kondo rule that everything in your closet should give you joy, made me nostalgic for a time when I loved re-wearing my favourite pieces. They was no shame in repeating outfits or pieces, you were simply wearing your favourites. I don’t know that era of my life was like this, was I like this as a child? Not sure. But there is a sense of familiarity I feel in having a closet of carefully curated favourites.

So in 2020, I decided to factor sustainability among my closet goodies. While I continue to purge, I set a shopping goal for 2020 - one newly purchased item of clothing per month. The first two months have now passed and I’ve been successful, but I can feel my body screaming to go shopping and indulge in everything. Staying out of malls has been the key thus far.

This goal has made me particular about what I want to purchase per month. It better be an item that excites me enough for 30 days and something I need and will truly enjoy for the rest of the year.

Purchases so far have included:

January - Oversized Vintage Fur Vest - Melrose Trading Post, LA - $15 USD

February - Black Nike Huaraches - Sportcheck, Toronto - $68 CAD

Stay tuned for the purchases during the rest of 2020.
